Publicity Day 3 and wearing TRAJE

We trekked two hours away starting at 6:30 in the morning to an extremely rural town of Salquil. We arrived to a swarm of people in the middle of the town because the government was giving away free fertilizer. We took advantage of this opportunity and were quick to hand out our flyers and tell them about our campaign on Thursday. This publicity day was a little different because along with the free eye exams we are having a stove meeting to educate people about the importance of stoves, the types of stoves we have, and how they can go about buying them. We have never done this at a campaign before and are really excited to test how our publicity turns out and if people show up to our meeting. The town also had their market day so there were so many people we got to talk to. It seemed like a very successful publicity day and the people yet again received us very well and were excited for our campaign.

After the campaign we went two hours back to Descanso to prep for the Mercadito that is tomorrow morning. We finished our posters, went to a store to buy all of the supplies we need, and figured out all of the logistics. We are excited for this fundraiser and hope we can make lots of money for the special education school!

Tonight when I returned home it was such a fun night! My mom brought in her Traje, the traditional clothing that indigenous woman wear everyday, for me to try on to wear to tomorrow's Mercadito. She had so many beautiful ones and I tried them on and we took so many photos together. My mom also has a facebook and she wanted me to take photos of her to be her profile picture on facebook. Then we uploaded them to my computer and edited them and she was amazed at what I could do to the picture!
I bought the boys marbles!

She took so many of these!

After this we played another game of Charades until dinner which was vegetable and spaghetti soup with so much broccoli that I loved it! But, since we were taking pictures in her traje for so long we didnt eat until 9! During dinner they taught me the Ixil word for thanks- Teeshee and respond with Ti and Oshee if you respond with ti the person is dismissed by Siu for them to come back. We played a game like red light green light with these words in front of my mother's mom who thought me saying these Ixil words was so funny.

Tomorrow we have the Mercadito where I will be wearing the Traje all day!
