This post is late because I have not quite figured out the internet situation in my new home stay but it was written yesterday.
Today was an exciting day! We travelled 5 hours to Nebaj, a more rural less touristy town we are going to be working from for the next two weeks. We drove through very mountainous terrain around windy roads along the one highway that runs through Guatemala to finally reach our destination. We had lunch at the restaurant where we will be having meetings throughout the week and had a brief orientation before meeting our new home stays.
A pitstop along the way with an amazing view of the lake.
My new room!
My home stay mom works at the restaurant where we eat so she was able to walk me home. I live in a home with a single mom who's husband left them to go to the United States. Nilo is the moms name and she solely supports her two children: Miguelito and Efrain. Miguelito was the first of the two I met. He is 8 years old and is the cutest boy of all time! He showed me his pet rabbit named Princessa and we ran across the street to get food to feed it. We then juggled a soccer ball for a little until he wanted to play marbles! I was terrible and he kept playing for me because I just could not get the hang of it. We played that about 5 times until we got bored and then played volleyball where we counted how many times we could pass the ball without it dropping. We got to 29 and he could not have been more proud of us. Then his mom said he had to do his homework so I unpacked until the other 12 year old brother came. He was also so adorable and both of them together is a real show. He brought out his computer and we played super mario and listened to music until dinner. Dinner was the tradition eggs, beans, plantains, and tortillas.
After dinner Efrain and I passed the soccer ball and juggled for a while. It was really fun just doing something at least a little active after dinner. The boys then both came into my room and we watched videos they had on their computer and i was quick to show them photo booth in which they had a blast playing with. They were laughing so hard Miguelito accidentally farted and was rolling on the floor laughing with embarrassment. It was so cute!
My new room! (much larger than the first one)
My home stay brothers- Efriam (12) on the left and Miguelito (8) on the right
Miguelito!!
I feel bad because my room is the largest in the house literally double the size of my previous room and them three share a room a quarter of the size of mine. The front of the house is also a tienda.
I am so happy with my new family! Really excited for the relationship I will build for the next two weeks. This is a much more active house than my first!
